Overview
co.mouthwas (also referred to as CoM or GT/SP mouthwash) is a patented herbal combination mouthwash developed by the Department of Periodontics at the University of Baghdad. The formulation consists of aqueous extracts of Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) and Salvadora persica (miswak). It is specifically indicated for the treatment and prevention of dental biofilm-induced gingivitis. The mouthwash exerts its therapeutic effects by targeting oral inflammatory pathways, notably reducing the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and by providing antimicrobial activity against plaque-forming bacteria. It has been evaluated in randomized controlled clinical trials as a natural alternative to conventional chemical agents like chlorhexidine, demonstrating comparable anti-plaque and anti-inflammatory efficacy with a focus on minimizing side effects.
