coAAV-SCS is a novel gene therapy vector platform developed by Coave Therapeutics, specifically engineered for delivery into the suprachoroidal space (SCS) of the eye. Utilizing the proprietary ALIGATER™ platform, these vectors are created through chemical conjugation-based modification of adeno-associated virus (AAV) capsids. This approach is designed to enhance transduction of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), choroid, and retinal cells while offering a less invasive alternative to subretinal injections. The lead candidate, coAAV-SCS-01, has demonstrated significantly higher performance in non-human primates compared to standard AAV capsids. Coave's lead program using this technology, CoTx-101, is being developed for retinal vascular diseases such as neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME).
