Overview

Cobitolimod is a DNA-based synthetic oligonucleotide that acts as an agonist of Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9). It is designed to modulate the immune response by activating TLR9 in the colonic mucosa. This activation leads to anti-inflammatory effects through suppression of Th17 cells and induction of anti-inflammatory FoxP3-positive regulatory T cells. Cobitolimod has been primarily developed for the treatment of moderate to severe ulcerative colitis and has shown efficacy in clinical trials for patients with left-sided disease who are refractory to conventional therapies. The drug is administered topically via rectal route[4][5][7].
