Overview

Coblopasvir hydrochloride (also referred to as clopavir hydrochloride) is a second-generation direct-acting antiviral (DAA) that functions as an inhibitor of the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) non-structural protein 5A (NS5A). Developed by HEC Pharma (Dongyangguang), it is specifically designed to treat chronic hepatitis C infections. NS5A is a multifunctional protein essential for viral RNA replication and the assembly of new virus particles; by targeting this protein, coblopasvir disrupts the viral lifecycle. It is typically used in combination regimens, most notably with the NS5B polymerase inhibitor sofosbuvir. Coblopasvir has demonstrated high potency and a broad spectrum of activity against various HCV genotypes, including genotype 1, which is prevalent in China. It was approved by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) of China in 2020 under the brand name Kailiwei.
