Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SK-MS10 is a standardized extract derived from the seeds of *Cochinchina momordica*, with its major active compounds being momordica saponins. It was developed by SK Chemicals (and its division SK biopharmaceuticals) for the treatment of acute and chronic gastric disorders, particularly gastritis and NSAID-induced gastric damage. Preclinical studies in rat models have demonstrated that SK-MS10 exerts gastroprotective effects by suppressing proinflammatory cytokines (such as IL-1β and TNFα), downregulating cytosolic phospholipase A2 (cPLA2) and 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), increasing mucus synthesis, upregulating calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), and enhancing angiogenesis via VEGF expression. The compound does not significantly inhibit gastric acid secretion but may accelerate ulcer healing through multiple mechanisms including anti-inflammatory action, mucosal protection, and promotion of tissue repair[1][3][6][8].
