Drug intelligence / Profile preview
YMC026 (Codaewon S Syrup) is a multi-ingredient antitussive and expectorant syrup developed and marketed by Yuhan Corporation in collaboration with Daewon Pharmaceutical. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of respiratory diseases characterized by cough and sputum, such as acute bronchitis. The formulation is a five-component mixture consisting of dihydrocodeine bitartrate (an opioid antitussive), DL-methylephedrine hydrochloride (a bronchodilator), chlorpheniramine maleate (an antihistamine), potassium guaiacolsulfonate (an expectorant), and Pelargonium sidoides extract (a herbal extract with immunomodulatory and antimicrobial properties). YMC026 works through multiple mechanisms: dihydrocodeine suppresses the cough reflex in the brain's cough center; methylephedrine relaxes bronchial smooth muscle; chlorpheniramine reduces allergic inflammation and secretions; potassium guaiacolsulfonate thins mucus; and Pelargonium sidoides extract enhances the body's immune response against respiratory pathogens. This synergistic approach is designed to provide comprehensive relief from bronchitis symptoms.
