Overview

Codomol is a fixed-dose combination analgesic marketed by Omnica Laboratories, primarily in the Philippines. It consists of paracetamol (acetaminophen), a non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic, and codeine phosphate, an opioid analgesic. Paracetamol is thought to act primarily in the central nervous system by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis through the cyclooxygenase (COX) pathway and potentially modulating the endocannabinoid system. Codeine phosphate acts as a prodrug that is metabolized to morphine, which then functions as an agonist at the mu-opioid receptors to alter the perception of and emotional response to pain. Codomol is indicated for the relief of mild to moderate pain where other non-opioid analgesics have proven insufficient.
