Overview

Codis is a combination analgesic medication developed by Reckitt Benckiser, containing aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) and codeine phosphate. Aspirin functions as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in pain, inflammation, and fever. Codeine phosphate is an opioid analgesic that acts as an agonist at mu-type opioid receptors in the central nervous system to modulate the perception of pain. Formulated as dispersible or soluble tablets for oral administration, Codis is indicated for the short-term relief of acute moderate pain, including headaches, migraines, toothache, neuralgia, and rheumatic pain. Due to the inclusion of codeine, the medication carries risks of dependency and is typically restricted to short-term use (no more than three days).
