Coelenterazine cp (Cp-Coeleneterazine) is a synthetic analog of native coelenterazine, a luminophore used in bioluminescent assays. Like other derivatives of coelenterazine, the "cp" variant is designed to reconstitute with apoaequorin or Renilla luciferase for highly sensitive detection of calcium ions (Ca2+) and as a chemiluminescent probe for reactive oxygen species such as superoxide anion. The "cp" analog confers distinct spectral properties and Ca2+ affinities to the aequorin complex compared to native coelenterazine. Aequorins containing the "cp" form are reported to exhibit relative intensities 10–20 times higher than those reconstituted with native coelenterazine[1][2]. These properties make it valuable in cell-based second messenger assays and high-throughput screening applications.
