Overview

Coenzyme A persulfide is a small molecule and an experimental compound that acts as a possible in vivo inhibitor of mammalian short chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase. It is a modified form of coenzyme A (CoA) where the terminal thiol group is replaced by a persulfide group. This modification imparts unique chemical properties, such as increased acidity and nucleophilicity compared to thiols, making it more reactive at physiological pH. Coenzyme A persulfide has been studied for its potential role in modulating metabolic pathways involving fatty acid oxidation and acetyl-CoA synthesis by inhibiting enzymes that utilize CoA or acyl-CoAs as substrates[1][2][6]. Its pharmacological action remains largely experimental, with no approved clinical indications.
