Cofact

Cofact is a non-activated, heparin-free, four-factor prothrombin complex concentrate (4F-PCC) derived from human plasma. It contains the coagulation factors II, VII, IX, and X, as well as the proteins C and S. It is primarily used for the rapid reversal of anticoagulation induced by vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) or direct factor Xa inhibitors, such as apixaban and rivaroxaban, in cases of major bleeding or the need for urgent surgery. Unlike some other PCC formulations, Cofact is formulated without heparin, which may improve clot stability against fibrinolytic breakdown. The product works by restoring thrombin generation, which is suppressed by anticoagulants.
