Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CofixRX is an over-the-counter (OTC) nasal spray product developed and distributed by CofixRX LLC and LXR Biotech LLC. The formulation's primary active ingredient is povidone-iodine, a well-established antiseptic that provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. In addition to povidone-iodine, the spray contains Vitamin D3, xylitol, and carrageenan. It is marketed as a preventative measure to help protect the nasal passages from pathogens and germs. However, in 2022, the FDA issued a warning letter to the developers for making unapproved claims regarding the product's ability to prevent COVID-19, noting that it does not conform to the requirements for OTC antiseptic products, particularly for intranasal administration.
