Cogenzia

**Cogenzia** is an investigational, fully resorbable topical collagen-matrix sponge containing gentamicin sulfate, developed by Innocoll as an adjunct to systemic antibiotics and standard wound care for infected diabetic foot ulcers. The collagen matrix was intended to provide high local gentamicin exposure at the wound site. Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibacterial that binds bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA within the 30S ribosomal subunit, disrupting protein synthesis and causing bactericidal mistranslation. Cogenzia completed two pivotal Phase 3 diabetic-foot-infection studies, but neither met its primary endpoint of clinical cure at day 28; Innocoll subsequently discontinued the clinical development program.
