COGNANO's anti-HIV-1 CAR-T therapy is an experimental cell-based immunotherapy currently in preclinical development for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. The therapy involves engineering a patient's T cells to express a Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) designed to specifically recognize and bind to HIV-1 antigens, such as the envelope glycoprotein (Env), expressed on the surface of infected cells. By utilizing COGNANO's proprietary VHH (nanobody) technology, which is derived from alpacas, the CAR is intended to provide high specificity and potency in identifying and eliminating the viral reservoir. This approach aims to achieve a functional cure by targeting and lysing cells that harbor the virus, including those that persist despite suppressive antiretroviral therapy (ART).
