coixenolide

Coixenolide is a fatty acid ester isolated from coix seeds (Coix lacryma-jobi Linn.). It exhibits anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and pain-reducing activities. It stimulates the lung, heart, striated, and smooth muscles at low doses, while inhibiting at high doses, and dilates pulmonary veins to improve pulmonary blood circulation. Coixenolide also affects the synthesis level of phosphoglucose isomerase and α-phosphoglucomutase, and has a depressant effect on tumor cells by inhibiting NF-κB-dependent transcription. It is being investigated for its therapeutic potential, including in severe traumatic brain injury, and can also be used as a nutraceutical.
