ColActive

ColActive is an advanced wound care dressing developed by Covalon Technologies. It is a medical device composed of a patented blend of fish-derived collagen, sodium alginate, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). When applied to a wound, the dressing reacts with exudate to form a soft gel, creating a moist environment conducive to granulation and epithelialization. The EDTA component acts by chelating zinc to inhibit matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which are often elevated in chronic wounds and can stall healing. The "Plus Ag" version includes silver chloride to provide antimicrobial protection. It is indicated for the management of full- and partial-thickness wounds, including diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, venous ulcers, and second-degree burns.
