Overview

Coldam (also referred to as Coldan) is a topical ophthalmic formulation developed and marketed by Sigmapharm Arzneimittel. The active ingredient is naphazoline hydrochloride, a small molecule sympathomimetic amine that acts as a potent vasoconstrictor. By stimulating alpha-adrenergic receptors in the arterioles of the conjunctiva, it induces vasoconstriction, which effectively reduces swelling, congestion, and secretions. It is indicated for the symptomatic relief of non-infectious conjunctival irritation caused by environmental factors such as smoke, dust, wind, and light. The product is available as an over-the-counter medication in Austria, typically provided in a 10 ml glass bottle with a dropping pipette.
