Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief is a therapeutic toothpaste developed by Colgate-Palmolive for the treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity. It utilizes the proprietary Pro-Argin technology, which consists of 8% arginine (an amino acid naturally found in saliva) and an insoluble calcium compound, typically calcium carbonate. The mechanism of action involves the arginine and calcium carbonate binding to the negatively charged dentin surface to form a mineral-rich layer that physically occludes (plugs and seals) open dentin tubules. This barrier prevents external stimuli, such as temperature changes or pressure, from reaching the nerve endings via fluid movement within the tubules, thereby providing immediate and long-lasting relief from sensitivity. Most formulations also include sodium monofluorophosphate to provide anti-caries protection through the remineralization of tooth enamel.
