Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Colgate Total Advanced Pro-Shield is an alcohol-free mouth rinse formulated with 0.075% cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) as its active antimicrobial agent. Developed by Colgate-Palmolive, it is indicated for the reduction of dental plaque and the prevention of gingivitis. CPC is a cationic quaternary ammonium compound that interacts with the negatively charged bacterial cell surface, leading to membrane permeability changes, loss of cytoplasmic components, and cell death. This product was the subject of a clinical trial at King Abdullah University Hospital to evaluate its effectiveness in controlling plaque and maintaining breath freshness during the day when used between morning and evening tooth brushing sessions.
