Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Coligermina is a gastrofunctional oral suspension developed by Bruschettini for the treatment of infant colic, meteorism, aerophagia, and dyspeptic disorders in infants, children, and adults. It is a fixed-dose combination of simethicone and spores of the probiotic bacterium *Bacillus coagulans* (historically referred to as *Lactobacillus sporogenes*). Simethicone acts locally in the gastrointestinal tract as a surfactant, reducing the surface tension of gas bubbles to facilitate their coalescence and elimination. Concurrently, *Bacillus coagulans* spores survive gastric acidity to germinate in the intestines, where they produce lactic acid and help restore a balanced gut microbiota. Coligermina is approved and marketed in Italy and other regions as a CE Class IIa medical device.
