Overview

**Colistin-conjugated selenium nanoparticles** are an experimental preclinical nanotherapeutic consisting of selenium nanoparticles functionalized with the polymyxin antibiotic colistin. In an in vitro 2025 study, the construct showed enhanced activity against multidrug-resistant *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, including reduced *mexY* efflux-pump gene expression, and greater antifungal activity than unconjugated selenium nanoparticles against *Candida albicans*, *Candida glabrata*, and *Candida krusei*. It also produced dose-dependent cytotoxicity in MCF-7 human breast cancer cells, associated with oxidative stress and apoptosis. The construct has not been reported as a clinically developed, marketed, or approved medicinal product.
