Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Colistin Cyclops® is a dry powder inhaler (DPI) formulation of the polymyxin antibiotic colistin, developed by PureIMS for the treatment of chronic pulmonary *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* infections in patients with cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis. The product utilizes the proprietary Cyclops® technology, a breath-actuated, disposable, and pre-filled device designed to deliver high doses of medication directly to the deep lungs with minimal effort and reduced side effects like coughing compared to other formulations. Colistin acts by binding to lipopolysaccharides and phospholipids in the outer cell membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, leading to membrane disruption and cell death. As of 2025, the drug is in clinical development following a PK-based hybrid pathway agreed upon with the EMA and has received Orphan Drug Designation from both the FDA and EMA. It has been available via named patient programs in the Netherlands since 2015.
