Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Colistop is an antibiotic formulation manufactured by Indi Pharma, containing colistin sulphate as its active ingredient. As a member of the polymyxin class of antibiotics, it targets the cell membranes of Gram-negative bacteria, specifically by binding to lipopolysaccharides and solubilizing the membrane, which results in bacterial cell death. It is primarily used to treat serious gastrointestinal infections, such as diarrhea in infants and children caused by *E. coli* or *Shigella*, and is also indicated for respiratory tract infections like pneumonia and bronchitis caused by multidrug-resistant organisms. Colistop is available as an oral suspension or syrup.
