Overview

Collagen-binding peptide (CBP) is a pharmacological agent under development for the treatment of bone loss, particularly in individuals with cerebral palsy (CP). Preclinical studies in a mouse model of CP have demonstrated its therapeutic capability in reversing bone loss. The peptide functions by binding to collagen, promoting osteoblast differentiation, and increasing bone turnover activity. It has been shown to increase trabecular thickness, total collagen, and the immunoreactivity of runt-related transcription factor 2 and osteocalcin, suggesting its involvement in bone formation and remodeling. Additionally, collagen peptides generally are known to promote the proliferation and differentiation of pre-osteoblasts and reduce the maturation of osteoclasts.
