Collagen tripeptide is a highly bioavailable, low molecular weight peptide consisting of three amino acids—glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline—derived from the enzymatic hydrolysis of animal or marine collagen. It is designed to mimic the repeating unit found in natural collagen and is often referred to by its sequence (Gly-Pro-Hyp) or as Tripeptide-29. Collagen tripeptides are absorbed intact through specific intestinal receptors (PEPT1), allowing them to circulate in the bloodstream and reach target tissues such as skin and joints[6][8]. Mechanistically, they stimulate fibroblast activity, leading to increased synthesis of type I collagen in skin and connective tissue[6][10]. Clinical studies suggest that oral supplementation with collagen tripeptides can improve skin hydration, elasticity, reduce wrinkles, support joint health, and may aid bone strength[5][7][8]. These peptides are used primarily as dietary supplements for anti-aging skincare benefits but also have applications for joint support.
