Overview

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum is an injectable biologic enzyme produced by the bacterium Clostridium histolyticum. It is used to break down collagen in fibrous tissue and is indicated for the treatment of Dupuytren's contracture with a palpable cord and Peyronie's disease with a palpable plaque and curvature deformity in men. Additionally, it has been approved as Qwo for the treatment of moderate to severe cellulite in adult women. The mechanism of action involves enzymatic hydrolysis of collagen types I and III, leading to disruption of abnormal fibrous tissue or plaques. The drug was developed by Endo International.
