Overview

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes is an injectable combination of two purified bacterial collagenases used for the treatment of moderate to severe cellulite in adult women. Its mechanism of action involves enzymatic subcision and remodeling—specifically, it hydrolyzes Types I and III collagen with high specificity. By disrupting the fibrous septae responsible for cellulite depressions, it smooths skin contours and stimulates neocollagenesis and reorganization of subcutaneous adipose tissue into smaller, more homogenous fat lobules. The drug acts locally at the injection site with no significant systemic exposure detected. It was developed primarily for aesthetic improvement in cellulite-related contour alterations[1][2][3][4][6].
