Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CollaPlug is a bio-absorbable collagen wound dressing derived from bovine deep flexor tendon, primarily used in dental surgery to manage extraction sites and biopsy wounds. Developed by Zimmer Biomet (formerly Zimmer Dental), it functions as a mechanical scaffold that stabilizes the blood clot and protects the wound bed, facilitating guided tissue regeneration and minimizing alveolar bone resorption following tooth loss. In clinical research, such as studies conducted at the University of Michigan, it is often compared to or used alongside other regenerative techniques like d-PTFE membranes (e.g., Cytoplast) for immediate implant placement. The plug is designed to be completely resorbed by the body within 10 to 14 days.
