Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Collatamp G is a surgical implant consisting of a purified, lyophilized bovine collagen matrix impregnated with gentamicin sulfate. It functions as a drug-device combination designed for local delivery of high-dose aminoglycoside antibiotics directly to a surgical site. Upon implantation, the collagen sponge is gradually resorbed by the body, releasing gentamicin to provide a high local concentration of the antibiotic to prevent or treat infection, while minimizing systemic exposure and associated toxicity, such as nephrotoxicity or ototoxicity. The collagen matrix serves as a biodegradable scaffold that supports tissue healing while the antibiotic provides targeted antimicrobial activity. It is primarily used in orthopedic surgery for peri-prosthetic joint infections and in cardiac surgery for sternal wound protection.
