Colloidal bismuth tartrate is a bismuth-containing compound used primarily for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, as well as for the management of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infections. It acts by forming a protective barrier over ulcerated areas in the stomach lining, shielding them from gastric acid and promoting healing. Additionally, it exhibits mild antibacterial activity against H. pylori and stimulates mucus and bicarbonate production in the stomach, further protecting mucosal surfaces. Colloidal bismuth compounds are often used in combination with antibiotics to eradicate H. pylori infection[5][6][8]. The mechanism involves both physical protection of ulcers and direct antimicrobial effects.
