Overview
Colonoscopic fecal microbiota material refers to a donor-derived fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) formulation specifically prepared for delivery via colonoscopy. Developed by the University of Minnesota, it is being investigated in Phase 1 clinical trials for the prevention of postoperative recurrence in adults with Crohn's disease. The therapy consists of a complex community of live microorganisms intended to restore microbial homeostasis in the gut, addressing the dysbiosis associated with Crohn's disease. It is classified as a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) and is compared against oral capsule formulations to determine the most effective delivery method for engraftment of beneficial bacteria.
