Colossolactone E is a naturally occurring triterpenoid isolated from the Vietnamese mushroom *Ganoderma colossum*. It belongs to a class of compounds known as colossolactones, which are characterized by the presence of a six-membered lactone ring (ring D) and sometimes an additional seven-membered lactone ring (ring A). Research presented at the AACR 2017 meeting investigated the chemotherapeutic potential of colossolactone E alongside other related triterpenoids. In vitro studies evaluated its antioxidant activity using the DPPH free radical scavenging assay, where it demonstrated weak activity with an EC50 of 131.94 µM. Furthermore, its cytotoxic effects were assessed against several solid tumor cell lines, including breast (MCF-7), cervix (HeLa), colorectal (HCT-116), and liver (HepG2) cancer cells. While it showed some inhibitory effects, other derivatives like colossolactone IV and schisanalactonoe A exhibited more potent cytotoxic profiles in these models.
