Colostrinin is a proline-rich polypeptide (PRP) complex derived from ovine (sheep) colostrum. It functions as an immunomodulator and a cytokine-like factor, notably inducing the production of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) and other cytokines in human leukocyte cultures. In the context of neurodegenerative diseases, colostrinin has been investigated for its potential to inhibit the aggregation of amyloid-beta and dissolve existing fibrils, which are pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease. Clinical studies have suggested that oral administration of colostrinin may stabilize or improve cognitive function in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's dementia. The drug was primarily developed by ReGen Therapeutics and has demonstrated a favorable safety profile with only mild, transient side effects such as insomnia and tiredness.
