Colpermin

Colpermin is an enteric-coated capsule containing 187 mg of peppermint oil (Mentha x piperita), used for the symptomatic treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The enteric coating is designed to delay the release of the active ingredient until it reaches the small intestine, thereby providing local action on the bowel wall while reducing the risk of upper gastrointestinal side effects like heartburn. Its primary mechanism of action is the inhibition of L-type voltage-gated calcium channels in intestinal smooth muscle cells, which leads to muscle relaxation and an antispasmodic effect. This helps alleviate common IBS symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, and flatulence. In clinical research conducted by the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Colpermin has served as a gold-standard active comparator in Phase 3 trials evaluating the efficacy of other botanical extracts, such as anise oil, for gastrointestinal disorders.
