Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL), in collaboration with the Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), is developing an inactivated bacterial vaccine to prevent Columnaris Disease in freshwater fish. Columnaris Disease, caused by the bacterium *Flavobacterium columnare*, is a significant threat to aquaculture, affecting species like tilapia and catfish by causing skin lesions, fin erosion, and gill necrosis. This vaccine, which represents India's first commercial fish vaccine, is designed to elicit a protective immune response against the causative agent, thereby reducing mortality and the need for antibiotics in fish farming.
