Overview

Combivent MDI is a **combination inhalation aerosol** containing two active ingredients: **ipratropium bromide** (an anticholinergic bronchodilator or short-acting muscarinic antagonist) and **albuterol sulfate** (a short-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist). This metered dose inhaler delivers both drugs simultaneously to the airways for the **maintenance treatment of bronchospasm in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)** who require a second bronchodilator. Ipratropium works by blocking muscarinic receptors, preventing bronchoconstriction triggered by acetylcholine, while albuterol relaxes bronchial smooth muscle through stimulation of beta2-adrenergic receptors, promoting bronchodilation. Each actuation delivers 18 mcg ipratropium bromide and 103 mcg albuterol sulfate from the mouthpiece.
