Composite amniotic gel refers to a biomaterial derived from human amniotic membrane (AM), often processed into a decellularized and sometimes temperature-sensitive hydrogel form. These hydrogels are designed for regenerative medicine applications due to their unique biological properties, including low immunogenicity, anti-inflammatory effects, anti-fibrotic activity, antibacterial action, and the ability to promote angiogenesis. The mechanism of action is primarily through providing a bioactive extracellular matrix rich in collagen, fibronectin, hyaluronic acid, growth factors (such as EGF, KGF), cytokines (including interleukin-1 receptor antagonist), and other proteins that support tissue repair and modulate inflammation. Composite amniotic gels are used or under investigation for skin repair/wound healing (including diabetic ulcers), cartilage regeneration, heart tissue repair post-infarction or injury, dental pulp regeneration, vascular grafts/repair applications, endometrium regeneration in gynecology/fertility contexts, corneal healing in ophthalmology (e.g., chemical burns or perforations when corneal tissue is unavailable), bone defect repair after surgery or trauma reconstruction procedures such as vaginoplasty or urinary bladder reconstruction[1][2][3][4]. These products can be applied topically as gels/hydrogels or injected for minimally invasive therapies.
