Compound 3e is a novel small molecule N-benzylpyrrolidine derivative that functions as a dual inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) and monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B). In preclinical studies using an acute 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) mouse model of Parkinson's disease, compound 3e demonstrated the ability to ameliorate motor deficits and partially restore striatal dopamine levels, similar to established positive controls. Notably, its pharmacological profile includes compound-specific effects on neuroinflammation, such as increasing hippocampal levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines like interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). This compound is currently being investigated for its potential to modulate dopaminergic tone and provide neuroprotective effects in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
