Compound 4206 is a small molecule arylpiperazine-sulphonamide derivative being investigated for its neuroprotective properties in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Developed based on research at the University of Hertfordshire (referenced in patent WO 2016/051155), it has demonstrated the ability to improve cell viability in in vitro models of Parkinson's disease. Specifically, compound 4206 has shown significant protective effects in SH-SY5Y cells against neurotoxins that induce mitochondrial dysfunction (MPP+) and impaired protein clearance (lactacystin). The compound is part of a series of novel arylpiperazine-sulphonamides designed to address the underlying pathophysiology of neurodegeneration, potentially offering a disease-modifying strategy beyond symptomatic management.
