Compound 7d is a novel small molecule flavanone derivative developed by researchers at Sun Yat-sen University for the potential treatment of schizophrenia. It utilizes a dual mechanism of action, acting as an antagonist of the dopamine D2 receptor and an inhibitor of nitric oxide (NO) over-production. This dual approach is designed to modulate dopaminergic pathways associated with psychotic symptoms while simultaneously providing anti-neuroinflammatory effects by reducing microglial NO production. In preclinical mouse models, oral administration of compound 7d has demonstrated the ability to reverse hyperactivity behaviors induced by MK-801 and decrease climbing behaviors induced by apomorphine, suggesting potent antipsychotic potential.
