Overview

Compound aminophenolamine is a widely used fixed-dose combination medication in China, primarily indicated for the symptomatic relief of the common cold and influenza. It typically consists of five active components: acetaminophen (paracetamol), amantadine hydrochloride, chlorpheniramine maleate, caffeine, and artificial bezoar. Acetaminophen serves as an analgesic and antipyretic by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system. Amantadine hydrochloride acts as an antiviral agent by blocking the M2 proton channel of the influenza A virus, thereby preventing viral uncoating. Chlorpheniramine maleate is a first-generation antihistamine that reduces symptoms like sneezing and rhinorrhea by antagonizing H1 receptors. Caffeine is included to counteract the sedative effects of the antihistamine and to potentially enhance the analgesic effect. Artificial bezoar, a traditional Chinese medicine component, is added for its purported antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and sedative properties. The drug is available over-the-counter and is manufactured by numerous pharmaceutical companies across China.
