Overview
Compound Berberine Tablets (Fufang Huanglian Su Pian) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation manufactured by Sichuan Senke Pharmaceutical (Senkeyuan). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, including infectious diarrhea, acute gastroenteritis, and bacillary dysentery. The formulation is a combination of berberine hydrochloride, an alkaloid derived from plants like *Coptis chinensis*, and several auxiliary herbal extracts including *Aucklandia lappa* (Muxiang), *Scutellaria baicalensis* (Huangqin), and *Evodia rutaecarpa* (Wuzhuyu). Berberine exerts broad-spectrum antibacterial activity by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis and interfering with cell division via the FtsZ protein. The additional herbal components provide synergistic anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antispasmodic effects, which help alleviate abdominal pain and tenesmus. This product is an approved medication in China and is included in the National Essential Drug List.
