Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Compound cinquefoil ointment is a traditional topical OTC pharmaceutical product used for the treatment of skin inflammations, minor skin injuries, and acne. The formulation typically combines a liquid extract of cinquefoil rhizome (Potentilla erecta), ichthammol, and zinc oxide. The cinquefoil extract is rich in tannins, which provide astringent and anti-inflammatory effects by precipitating surface proteins and constricting small blood vessels. Ichthammol contributes mild antiseptic and anti-swelling properties, while zinc oxide acts as a protective barrier and drying agent to facilitate tissue regeneration. It is manufactured by the Polish pharmaceutical company Zakład Farmaceutyczny AMARA.
