Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Compound Ciwujia Granules + estazolam is a combination therapy consisting of a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) granule and a benzodiazepine sedative-hypnotic, currently being evaluated for the treatment of chronic insomnia. Compound Ciwujia Granules (Fufang Ciwujia Keli) primarily contains *Eleutherococcus senticosus* (Siberian Ginseng) and is traditionally used in China to treat neurasthenia, fatigue, and sleep disorders by regulating the 'Qi' and calming the spirit. Estazolam is a standard pharmaceutical agent that enhances the effect of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA at the GABA-A receptor. This combination is being studied in a large-scale, multi-center clinical trial (led by Hui Zhu) to determine if the addition of Ciwujia can improve long-term sleep outcomes and reduce the severity of insomnia compared to monotherapy, while potentially mitigating the side effects associated with benzodiazepine use.
