Compound Eleutherococcus senticosus Granule is a traditional herbal preparation primarily containing Eleutherococcus senticosus, also known as Siberian ginseng or eleuthero. This woody shrub, native to Northeast Asia, has been utilized in Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Japanese medicine for over two millennia. The compound granule is currently undergoing clinical investigation for the treatment of insomnia, particularly in cases associated with 'heart and spleen deficiency syndrome' in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its mechanism of action involves modulating neurotransmitter levels, such as increasing inhibitory neurotransmitters like serotonin (5-HT) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), while reducing excitatory ones like dopamine (DA) and norepinephrine (NE), thereby contributing to improved sleep. Additionally, it exhibits anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and neuroprotective activities.
