Overview
Meineng is a brand name for compound glycyrrhizin, a combination drug containing glycyrrhizin (glycyrrhizic acid), glycine, and DL-methionine. It is primarily used for the treatment of chronic liver disease to improve liver function and for various inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and alopecia areata. Glycyrrhizin, the active component derived from licorice root, possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and hepatoprotective properties. Glycine and methionine are included to mitigate potential side effects of glycyrrhizin, such as pseudoaldosteronism (sodium retention and potassium loss). It is widely used in East Asia, particularly China and Japan.
