Overview

Compound glycyrrhizin sodium chloride is a fixed-dose combination intravenous infusion used primarily for the treatment of chronic liver diseases and allergic skin conditions. The formulation typically contains glycyrrhizin (as monoammonium glycyrrhizinate), glycine, and L-cysteine hydrochloride, dissolved in a sodium chloride solution. Glycyrrhizin, a triterpenoid saponin derived from licorice root, provides anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective effects by inhibiting the enzyme 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (11β-HSD2) and binding to the pro-inflammatory cytokine HMGB1. The inclusion of glycine and cysteine is intended to reduce the risk of pseudoaldosteronism, a known side effect of glycyrrhizin characterized by hypertension and hypokalemia. This product is widely manufactured in China, including by Guangxi Nanning Baihui Pharmaceutical, and is based on the original Japanese formulation known as Stronger Neo-Minophagen C.
