Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Compound Huangqi is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation whose principal ingredient is *Astragalus* root (commonly known as "Huang Qi"), often combined with other herbs. The main active components of Astragalus include polysaccharides, saponins (notably astragaloside IV), flavonoids, and isoflavones such as calycosin and formononetin. These compounds are believed to contribute to its immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-diabetic, and cardiovascular protective effects[1][5][6]. In TCM practice and modern research contexts, Compound Huangqi formulations are used for immune support; to treat fatigue; for adjunctive therapy in heart disease and diabetes; for kidney protection; and sometimes in combination therapies against viral infections[2][3][5]. Mechanistically, the bioactive constituents modulate immune responses by stimulating or regulating cytokine production and enhancing resistance to stressors. The precise mechanism depends on the specific herbal composition of the formulation.
