compound jinqiancao

Compound Jinqiancao (复方金钱草颗粒) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compound preparation composed of four herbal ingredients: Desmodium styracifolium (广金钱草), Plantago asiatica (车前草), Pyrrosia lingua (光石韦), and Zea mays silk (玉米须). It is formulated as granules and has been widely used in China since its approval in 1982. The main clinical indications are for the treatment of urinary tract stones and urinary tract infections, particularly those presenting with symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, dysuria, lumbar pain, or TCM syndromes described as "damp-heat pouring downward" causing "heat strangury" or "stone strangury." Pharmacological studies indicate that Compound Jinqiancao exerts multiple effects including diuretic action, inhibition of stone formation by increasing soluble calcium ion concentration and inhibiting calcium oxalate crystallization, anti-inflammatory activity, antispasmodic effect on ureteral smooth muscle spasm induced by acetylcholine, antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Proteus species among others. Its active chemical constituents include flavonoids (notably mangiferin from Pyrrosia lingua), alkaloids, sterols, terpenoids, phenolic acids, volatile oils and polysaccharides. The product is included in several national clinical guidelines for the management of acute pyelonephritis with damp-heat syndrome and urolithiasis with damp-heat accumulation[1][2][3].
