These materials are typically composed of modified plant-derived polysaccharides (such as starch) processed into a macroporous structure. When applied to a bleeding site, the particles act as a molecular sieve, rapidly absorbing the fluid component of blood. This dehydration concentrates endogenous clotting factors, platelets, and erythrocytes, significantly accelerating the natural coagulation process. The material is biocompatible and fully absorbable by the body, typically within days, eliminating the need for secondary removal.
